The Lazy Girl's Guide to Looking Cute

Even if you're one of the girls who loves to dress up and spend time putting together trendy outfits each season - we all have our days where we either don't have the time, or the energy... Or just really want to put in minimal effort and still somehow look cute. And I'm here to tell you that it IS possible ladies! ;) I love picking out and planning outfits but some most normal days I find myself wanting to be comfortable but still look put together. Even if you're not normally lazy, we all have lazy days (don't fool yourself! ;) and even then, you can still look like it took you hours to get all dolled up! Here's some of the simplest ways to achieve it:

My idea of a laid back look if I have no place to be is an over-sized sports/school/event tee and shorts or yogas (depending on the season). Is that not the best feeling - coming home and putting comfy clothes on?! But if I'm headed out and still don't want to rummage through my closet putting together a look, my go-to is always jeans, a simple tee/tank/sweater (again, weather dependent) and simple shoes. These closet must haves will become your BFFs on the days that you can't deal with more than putting together a simple look (and I know we've all been there):

1. Slip-on Sneakers

I know I'm not the only one who often buys sneakers that are meant for training or running, but have every intention of wearing them just because they're cute WAY more than I'll ever wear them when I go running. The best part about sneakers is how many types there are - any kind of slip-on sneakers or even athletic sneakers for that matter can so easily be dressed up and not at all sporty (or maybe sporty chic!). Think a sundress/sneaker combo!

2. Basic Tees

Ugh, basic t-shirts are my best friend at least 5 or so days of the week if we're being honest! I looovee them because they're comfy, and adore that they are possibly one of the most versatile clothing items you could ever own. Dress it up with a blazer for a work-wear look; a flowy midi skirt for a night out, tucked in for a more sophisticated day look, layered if it's chilly - endless possibilities.

3. Denim Jacket

A denim jacket that flatters your body type is one of the best things you could ever grace your closet with! It's a timeless piece that will always become trendy (have you seen these adorable pearl embellished jackets nearly everywhere lately?!) yet will always be in style. There's lots of different styles/cuts, so find one that's flattering on you and you'll find yourself reaching for it more than you even think!

4. Comfortable Jeans

Jeans aren't every girls best friend... In fact, 99% of the time I change out of my jeans and into my yoga pants the very moment I'm home. And I know I'm not the only one! Even if you're the same way, having jeans that are comfortable on, make you feel good and that you feel good in will make you hate them much less! It's all about finding what fit works best for your body type -- there's so many to choose from and you're more confident when you're comfortable.

Denim can be worn with basically anything and dressed up or down, so if you're comfortable even getting ready for a GNO won't phase your lazy self. ;)

5. Lightweight Cardigans

For any season, a lightweight cardigan is a closet essential! It's a must for transitioning to spring and to fall in, and even in the winter it's a style statement. In the summer, they're great for travel and cool nights outdoors. You can be super casual with a cardigan - jeans and a tee - or dressed up a bit - jeans, heels and a silk tank. Duster cardigans are very trendy right now and they're the perfect equivalent to a cardigan! I linked a bunch of them above - there's so many options, especially this time of year. And at the end of the day a versatile piece like a cardigan or duster is something you need in your closet!

6. Statement Sandals

This obviously will only work in the spring/summer, but you can easily apply it to the cold with cute boots and such. For me, the Tory Burch Miller line will always be my go-to. They're comfy, SO cute, and you can wear them with just about anything! They come in so many colors and the quality pays for itself. They're a great alternative to heels too! I love a good pair of heels, but it isn't a hard choice to opt for a sandal like these! Above are a bunch of other statement making sandals that can be worn with just about anything.

No matter how much you love the latest trends and hottest buys, there's really nothing wrong with having a day (or days...) where you just want to chill and not have to try. You can still look cute, and these additions to your closet will help you get there! What would you add to this list?

  1. You nailed it with what to wear when you're feeling lazy, but still want to look cute! I love pairing a comfy tee with some joggers and my denim jacket! And yes on sneakers, I definitely buy them because they're cute instead of using them for what they may be for, haha.

  9. Love this! After many, many, many years of trying to figure out how to look put together every day despite a wacky schedule and my own self-proclaimed laziness and a wardrobe that makes no sense... One of my favorite pieces is a cashmere zip up hoodie! Just as comfy but a little more luxe than throwing on the most oversized sweatshirt I can find :)
