A link up party that you won't want to miss!

Today I'm SO excited to share the most exciting news that I'm lucky enough to be co-hosting Painted Teacup's Link-it to me Party!!! Chantal is one of my favorite bloggers I've met and she was sweet enough to ask me to co-host her amazing link up party this week! I love link up parties and the fact that one of my best blogging friends has one weekly is so much fun! The best part is meeting new people and finding so many new posts through link ups.

As I'm halfway through my sixth month of blogging (this is insane to me!), I'm always looking for ways to increase traffic and grow a following. If you're a regular Daily Dose of Design reader or even a new reader, from the bottom of my heart I truly thank you for taking the time to read my blog! Blogging has always been such a dream of mine and now running my own blog is such an amazing experience day after day. That being said, link parties are one of the many ways that I find extremely helpful in growing my blog. Link parties allow you to connect with other bloggers and find blogs that you may end up loving! I'm so excited to be a co-host for a link up party and definitely will be starting my very own in the (hopefully near) future!

Here you can find a blog post that Chantal wrote about how link parties work and how you can successfully host your own link party. If you're thinking about starting your own, I definitely recommend reading this post! It's helped me quite a bit and I'll be referring back to it a LOT when I'm ready to start my own link up parties!!

Without further adieu, meet the fabulous host of the Link-it to Me party, Chantal from Painted Teacup! You can follow Chantal on her social media including Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter!!

Before Linking Up, please follow these guidelines so everyone can enjoy the party!
Please be sure to link a blog post, not a Pinterest link; you want to make sure others are visiting your blog, not just re-pinning!

The Guidelines Are Simple:
1. Check out my profile on Pinterest, if it interests you, consider liking my boards and/or following me.
2. Share the party on your social media. More visitors = more eyes on your posts!
3. Add any family friendly blog posts or pins (maximum of 3).
4. Share the love; view, pin, or share at least 3 other links on the link up!
5. By linking up, you agree to allow Painted Teacup and Daily Dose of Design to share your links and photos (credit is always given to you) on our blogs and social media sites. You also agree to allow us to contact you via email to inform you of future link-ups.

As a token of my appreciation, I will pin all links to one of my Pinterest boards!
Happy linking! Thanks for joining, we'llsee you again next week!
Link Up will run from 8pm EST Tuesday – 11:59pm EST Thursday.

DIY Dipped Ice Cream Cups!

 photo 7cb969f4-c713-4349-9e59-b9fd2419285f_zpsf2evmxbo.jpg

There's nothing I love more than summertime and ice cream!! I'm a total ice cream junkie and am always looking for new, fun ways to display and eat it! Since the 4th of July is coming up and so many exciting summertime parties and BBQ's as well, I decided to try a new kind of ice cream cone. I've seen similar cones like this at places like Coldstone but never thought to make them myself!!

Ingredients:

Waffle cones/cups
Chocolate (milk, dark, white)
Toppings of choice
  • Oreo crumbs
  • Sprinkles
  • Cookie crumbs
  • Kettle corn
  • Mini M&M's
  • Crushed pretzels
  • Shredded coconut
  • Your favorite candy

Directions:

1. Melt the chocolate in a bowl that will be easy to dip your sized cones/cups in
2. Dip (or spread with spoon) the cone/cup in the chocolate on its rim
3. Once coated in chocolate, add desired topping(s). Place the finished cone or cup onto a sheet of parchment paper on a plate or cookie sheet that will fit in your fridge.

 photo 57817320-b682-4310-90d4-e01f6d663790_zpsdnf052bh.jpg

You can use such a variety of toppings - sprinkles, chocolate, walnuts, coconut, kettle corn, mini m&m's; the list is never ending! For my first go around at this amazing DIY I decided to keep it simple and go with some rainbow sprinkles! I also had bought peanut butter cup ice cream (I don't mess around!) so I figured having a simple cone cup was better (oh, the things I think about!).

These are super easy and quick to make and also will be a fan favorite at your next summer bash! I made them on Thursday for a party last night and they went over so well - everyone loved them!

Here's the finished product with my peanut butter cup ice cream! SUCH a to die for dessert and so perfect for summer! It also is a prettier way to serve ice cream and the best part is that you're left with no ice cream dishes to wash!

Red, white, blue and sparkly all over!

I have always loved the idea of creating designs to be worn at a wedding and now thanks to Weddington Way I was able to create a bridesmaid look that is patriotic and perfect for a 4th of July wedding! I'm not sure I would ever want to have my wedding on July 4th but it sure seems like an awesome idea! If I were to, I would definitely go ALL out and have so many fireworks (preferably overlooking the ocean) during the reception! The more I think about it the more I realize how much fun you could actually have planning a 4th of July wedding.

With Weddington Way's extremely large selection of bridesmaid dresses that all come in such a variety of colors, it's super easy to find the perfect dresses for your bridesmaids! I was surprised as I was scrolling through the website just how many dresses there are to pick from. Even comparing Weddington Way to stores such as Davids Bridal - Weddington Way definitely takes the cake (see what I did there? ;))

If I were to style a 4th of July wedding or even have my wedding on this fun, traditional holiday here's how I would style it:

 photo d3ee7c72-b561-402a-9708-c5ee94e40373_zpsykdzs3xq.jpg
Weddington Way dress// Tassel earrings// Essie "Style Cartel"// L'Oreal Fiber lash mascara// Kendra Scott bracelet// White Louboutins// Rebecca Minkoff clutch// Kendra Scott bracelet// Kendra Scott ring// MAC lipstick// Urban Decay eyeshadow: Moondust

I chose to style Weddington Way's Alfred Angelo chiffon bridesmaid dress in navy. With so many great dresses to style it was hard to choose just one, however this one shouldered cocktail length dress seemed perfect for a 4th of July wedding!

Choosing white Louboutin's was an absolute no brainer - white is my favorite color with navy and the classic red bottoms for a patriotic wedding makes them the perfect shoe!

As you've probably noticed before I have a serious obsession with tassels this season!! That's why these Oscar de la Renta tassel earrings in red are perfect for this look! Since the top of the dress already has a lot going on, instead of a necklace, statement earrings will look gorgeous!

For the bridesmaids' bouquet, I chose tie-dyed roses that are red white and blue! They're so gorgeous in person and my high school graduation is what made me realize this! My high school colors were red and blue and these were all over the gym where I graduated!

I had so much fun creating this look for a patriotic wedding! Thanks to Weddington Way for inspiring this post!!

Do you know anyone who had/is having a 4th of July wedding?

XOXO

My Summer Wishlist

With summer officially starting this Sunday comes an entire new wishlist of items I'm eying and wanting to get! There's so many new things I'm dying to try and especially for summertime - I want makeup that looks airy, a good SPF moisturizer, sunnies for all my outfits and a closet full of summer sandals!
I also find it helpful to make a wishlist throughout the year of things I'm loving so that when my mom asks me every September, "what do you want for your birthday?" I don't look at her like a lost dog! Seriously this happens to me every year; I love things all year long and once my birthday rolls around I'm clueless! I've been making an effort to change that this year, which is why I've been so obsessed with making wishlists!

For this season I've been finding a mix of beauty, fashion and skincare products I'm dying to try! Here's what I've been eying nonstop:

 photo 8cc4eaf4-86eb-4bf6-bb22-2fd68b13f731_zpstkd3frlt.jpg

Floppy hat: I've been iffy about getting one of these this season - but apparently I have a good hat head! So I think I need one of these! I love this trend and now I'm on the hunt for the perfect floppy straw hat! These can be pretty pricey, like this gorgeous floppy hat but there are lots of options that honestly look exactly like the more expensive ones! I've found a couple I liked, but none that I love yet - so the hunt continues!

Naked Smoky Palette: words cannot describe just how excited I am for July 8th!! The next palette in the Naked collection is officially being released and you can bet that I'll be at my Sephora bright and early to get my hands on this gem! The Naked collection is by far worth every cent. I love all the colors and there's SO many tutorials and beauty bloggers and vloggers that give tips on using these palettes! Naked 2 has been my favorite out of all three for the past year or two but I have a feeling that this new palette is going to take the cake!

Aveeno Ultra Calming night cream: I found this product while scrolling through new arrivals on Ulta's website and after reading the description I knew it was a must try! Although I do protect my face with SPF moisturizer during the summer, sunburn is usually inevitable (for me anyway). Sunburn leads to dry skin and dry skin leads to bad complexion - so this nighttime moisturizer seems perfect! I've been looking for a product like this that would rejuvenate my summer skin overnight so I can't wait to try this.

Tory Burch Miller in Electric Eel: by far my favorite summer sandals! These come in every color and pattern you could possibly think of and I'm always itching to buy more! This turquoise color though is calling my name! My favorite color on my favorite shoe?! I definitely recommend these sandals because they can be worn every day or even can be dressed up. These teal millers are at the top of my wishlist this season!

St. Tropez: this brand has some of the best beauty and skin products I have ever used! This gradual self tanner doesn't turn you orange and doesn't get streaky which is hard to come by! I've tried my fair share of self tanners aside from tanning beds and spray tans and I've never quite liked one as much as the St. Tropez tanner! This has been on my wishlist and I just purchased it to use and I love it. I normally don't use self tanner during the Summer since I love laying in the sun, but at the beginning of the season when I'm not yet tan, this is a must use!

Urban Decay lip gloss: I recently found out that Urban Decay makes lip gloss and I am dying to get my hands on one of these! It comes in so many colors - I'm dying to try it in Failbait!

Kendra Scott Rayne pendant: this necklace is absolutely gorgeous and I love so much that the pendant matches Kendra's Danielle earrings. I definitely want to get this necklace for the summer especially!

Sun Bum sea spray: I first saw this collection in Aerie and recently saw it in Nordstrom as well! My hair is naturally curly and in the summer it's almost impossible to manage. I also use this time of year to give my hair a break from product and heat - since I'm mostly by the pool or out anyway where I can have my hair up or pulled back. The entire Sun Bum collection definitely seems worth a try! They have SPF facial products, sunscreen and hair products - which is what I'm most wanting to try for an every day beach wave look!

Alex & Ani: these bangles are some of my favorite jewelry to wear all summer long! The two I most want to add to my collection now are the pineapple bangle and the starfish bangle! They both are so summery and I definitely want to add these two into my collection to wear for the summer! I don't usually wear jewelry to the beach but these bangles are some I will wear because they aren't annoying on my wrist and are super fun!

What's on your summer wishlist this season?!

Reviewing dōTERRA Oils - why you should try them PLUS a giveaway!!!

 photo 2922b8b3-d19a-4398-8e9b-e99c1abf0dde_zpsvozi89qh.jpg

In the past six or so months, I’ve heard SO many things about essential oils – both on the internet and from some friends. After trying to become healthier, coming in contact with Amber at Finding Balance and her teaching me more about dōTERRA essential oils really made me want to try them. Before speaking with Amber, I was pretty skeptical that these oils would benefit me, but I wanted to give them a try! So Amber was kind enough to send me such a wonderful package of these oils in the mail and from the very first day that I began using them (which was about 2 weeks ago) until now, I really have been able to see a difference in how I feel daily!

P.S. be sure to read on for your chance to WIN a trio set of dōTERRA oils!!

 photo bec6b19f-7a20-4596-bbec-b3331b362069_zpspku2fnzh.jpg

 photo a3242079-6bd9-4dcc-b66c-d76098061f34_zpsmcujpypb.jpg

Amber sent me an awesome package that included the dōTERRA introductory kit (which includes three oils; lavender, lemon and peppermint), Mood Matrix, the Modern Essentials reference book and a Slim & Sassy apple cinnamon appetite control bar.

 photo 179c8b49-1f26-464e-ad5c-935a5439c606_zpsjty01mzi.jpg

Each essential oil has different uses and let me tell you - the list of what each scent is useful for is never ending!! For example: the lemon scent is absolutely amazing to add to a glass of water. I've been adding a drop to a glass of water every morning and I have seen a huge impact in my energy level and mood throughout the day! The lemon is also a natural disinfectant which is why I've enjoyed putting a drop in my hands and inhaling it. Be warned though: the lemon oil is photosensitive, and since it's summer and I've been spending a lot of time outside, I do this only at night.
The lavender oil works wonders on bug bites - one of my favorite summer activities is sitting by the fire at night, so I'm pretty much prone to mosquito bites! Applying a drop of the oil on these bug bites not only takes away the itch right away, but makes them go away so much faster. I also had worn a new pair of shoes that gave me awful blisters on my heels; Amber suggested that I apply the lavender oil to the burn and let me tell you, it helped SO much!! I was in pain for such a short amount of time thanks to this oil - seriously a life saver. I also recently began adding two drops to my conditioner each time I shower which has helped make my hair silky smooth!
Once I tried the peppermint oil (which was the last I tried) my energy level immediately changed! I placed a drop in my hands and inhaled it and saw a difference within ten minutes which completely surprised me! I've also found the peppermint super helpful for when I'm extremely hot. I go to a lot of concerts and outdoor events this time of year where standing outside in the sun all day definitely is exhausting. I also get overheated after a run on humid and warm mornings. The best way to use this oil that I've tried is applying a drop on the back of my neck. When Amber told me to try this I had been skeptical that a drop of oil on my neck would help my body temperature cool down, but low and behold - it really, really works!
Ever since I was in 11th grade, I've found myself way too often having to say "my head is killing me today". I have tried so many things - chiropractor visits, eye exams, allergy tests, the list goes on and on. I've had relief from a mix of things over the years, but when Amber and I spoke about the oils she was going to send me she had mentioned that the peppermint oil is great for pain. After receiving the oils, instead of going straight to the medicine drawer I tried applying the peppermint oil to my head and it dulled the pain within minutes! I was beyond shocked - years and years of suffering and now I have this easy fix to help!
Something that I found super interesting is that these three oils (lemon, lavender and peppermint) used together is nature's most powerful antihistamine. That's pretty powerful - and so amazing to me that something that is so natural can work in so many different ways!!!

 photo 154545c2-d48d-48cf-b2b5-721f4ef577f3_zpsmrmdmuvb.jpg

Amber also sent me an amazing book called An Introduction to Modern Essentials. There is a detailed list of every oil, every blend that dōTERRA makes and the many uses that each oil can be used for! I read through the book before trying any of my oils and doing so really made me want to try them even more. I was so excited when I read about the many uses of each oil - I never expected that each could really be used for so many different reasons! I'm glad I read this booklet first because it really gave me a better idea about what I was going to be using and helped me become much more experienced in dōTERRA essential oils!

 photo 88142bf3-f173-484c-8121-665a99f7ee63_zpsavhpuwgk.jpg

This is the Mood Matrix roller ball that Amber sent me next to one of my favorite Vera Wang perfumes. I placed them side by side because I love using the Mood Matrix as a perfume! It smells amazing and is all natural with no chemicals like regular perfumes have! It's a nice change using an all natural perfume time to time! I really like this and since it's small I can easily carry it with me in my bag! The Mood Matrix is a blend of four dōTERRA blends - balance, citrus bliss, serenity and elevation. I'm super glad Amber sent me this bottle because I've been loving using it every once in a while! It's amazing that blending these oils can make such a powerful mix!

 photo c8fb55fb-cdd7-40d9-8268-f7bdb18dd586_zpshcxsvlld.jpg

This Slim & Sassy apple cinnamon bar was insanely good!! Amber told me to try eating it a couple hours before the time of day that I like to snack - for me, that's at night. I wanted to try it in the morning too, so I ate half one night around 8 and the other half a day or two later mid morning around 11. I've tried a couple appetite suppressants in the past but this bar was by far my favorite! Not only is it really good but it did actually suppress my appetite before I wanted to make bad snack choices! This is something I'm definitely going to have to try again!

 photo 0c752270-2eca-45e2-b776-e8ce780b6ca0_zpsoglmbphn.jpg
Overall, I am absolutely loving my dōTERRA essential oils! They're verified pure and it definitely shows in the strength each oil has. While I'm no where near an expert, I'm SO glad I have Amber from Finding Balance to help me out! She's given me so many awesome tips and is such a sweetheart!

After adding these oils to my daily routine, I would most definitely recommend them! Whether you're trying to become healthy or just live a more clean and energetic lifestyle, implementing dōTERRA oils will help you achieve that! I also recommend buying these oils through Amber - she's super sweet and helpful and really wants to see all of her customers living happier and healthier! She has (and continues to with tons of my questions) helped me experience my oils to the fullest and I'll definitely be using them for a long time!

Check out Amber's dōTERRA Essential Oils video here!
You can also find Amber on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn!!

The Staple Pieces Everyone Should Have in Their Closet

photo Staple items you need in your closet_zpsvivafjxm.jpg

Whenever I go shopping, I try and make an effort to replace each new item with an old. Whether it's something I just haven't worn in a long time and know I won't wear again and can give it to charity, or an old piece that needs to be thrown out, it makes my closet not as cluttered and makes me feel better about buying new clothes. I also love to re-organize my closet; even if it's perfectly clean (which is rare). Seriously, I can't count the number of times I find myself moving shelves or at Home Depot buying more shelving units and organizational things!

As I get older and almost am a college graduate, I'm realizing it's becoming more and more important to have certain staple pieces in my closet. While this has always been important, the more I go out and experience new things and get to travel more, the more I realized how important this is! Having a well balanced wardrobe seriously makes getting dressed 10x easier. Whether going to school, work, a day out with friends or packing for a trip, having these basics and staple items will make a huge difference in your closet and how easy it is to pick and coordinate outfits.

Apps that make the blogging life easier!

 photo 965dc970-a048-45dd-b903-c23a2796dba4_zpscaniud67.jpg

For as long as I can remember, I've been a super organized person that writes everything down and has a plan for everything. My mom tells me it's OCD, but I like to think of it as a Virgo thing! I write everything down in a planner and ever since I started blogging, I've tried to be a super organized person - which has been super difficult because I have my thoughts written every where. When on the go, I would write an idea down in my notes app on my iPhone or when home I'd write things down in my notebook. I still use both time to time, but over the past few months of being a blogger I decided it was time I needed to be better organized. Trust me, you can never be too organized (especially when it comes to blogging) and I still have a super long way to go!
Becoming more organized has been possible thanks to the productivity section in the App Store! Here's some of the top apps I like to use every day to keep me organized and up to date with everything going on!

Latergram: There's lots of times that I take a bunch of pictures at once that I love and want to have posted, but in the hopes of having each seen, I never want to post them all at once. Thanks to Latergram, I can have every picture I wanted posted at a set time without forgetting to post them! You can schedule pictures to be posted along with their captions and then all you have to do is post! Super easy, super time saving and super helpful when you have a million other things you're thinking about!

The Simplified Planner: My absolute favorite planner app! I still prefer an actual planner that I can jot things down in, but having a planner on my phone that I can write things down in at any time is much more practical. Not only does it give you a calendar and note section, but it has a section that lets you keep track of your appointments/plans! It also gives an inspirational quote along with your day at-a-glance to start your day. I love this app - it's one of the few paid apps I have but it is worth every penny!

Dropbox: This is hands down one of my favorite apps I've ever had! I use this for everything - you can upload pictures, videos and documents and log into your Dropbox account anywhere to access them. This is helpful in more ways than just to help you blog; most e-mail services only allow you to attach images/videos up to 25 MB which is a huge problem for me when I'm trying to send myself videos to and from my computer. Especially after going to a concert - I love backing these up to Dropbox and being able to watch my videos whenever I want to without it taking up a lot of space on my phone! You get 2 GB worth of space free for every account and they're super reasonable if you want to go beyond that amount (shh, I have 3-4 accounts so I have 8 GB of free space before having to pay! ;) Dropbox makes it simple to send yourself photos for posts, etc. I would definitely recommend!

Swipes: This app is the best for creating a to-do list, especially if you're someone who can never remember to actually do the things on their to do list (me...)!! This is similar to the reminders app that comes with iPhone but I personally like Swipes better because you can set up multiple lists based on its category. For example, personal, business or blogging tasks.

Stylebook: This app is pretty new (to me anyway) and isn't free, but I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and it's one of those apps that I honestly WISH I thought to create myself! About a year ago I started taking pictures of accessories and certain pieces of clothing that I bought so that I could easily plan outfits on the go or on the run especially for special occassions. I also found doing this helpful when shopping and looking for (for example) a statement necklace that perfectly matched a top I had recently bought. Well with Stylebook, I no longer have to take up room in my camera roll and scroll endlessly to find the picture I'm looking for, because I can now import all of my clothing onto Stylebook and can do so much more - including making packing lists which is SO helpful!! Definitely recommend for any style/fashion bloggers also!

Are there any apps that you love and help you stay productive? I'm always looking for more ways to be organized!

Decorating a space with vibrant and bold colors!

Happy Tuesday and more importantly - happy JUNE!! It's been a couple super rainy days in New York so I've been stuck inside! But I've been shopping to find the last finishing touches to my bedroom makeover and I realized how awesome it is to have a vibrant touch to any room! No matter what color scheme or look you're going for, I think having some pieces that really pop in a room make it inviting and bring a space together. Going vibrant, bright and bold for a room is important to be done right, especially if you're going bold with your paint choice!

Gold decorative bowl// Kate Spade candle// Gold coral decor// Floral wall art// Sunburst mirror// Golden kiss wall art// Pink ikat pillow// Black/white striped accent chair// Turquoise sofa// Gold scale pillow// Gold striped pillow// Gold floor lamp// Pink/gold ottoman// Pink/gold lamp// Gold side tables

BLack, gold, pink and turquoise is one of my absolute favorite color combinations! Taking vibrant colors like these and mixing them with a more subtle color (like black) goes together like PB&J in my opinion!!

Here's some ways to decorate a room while adding some bold choices:

1. Stick to a scheme: While I've seen rooms that have a broad color scheme and look GORGEOUS, I prefer rooms that have a set scheme with a small handful of matching colors.
2. Going bold on your walls: If you have a vibrant/bold color on your walls, I bet it looks awesome! If you aren't as comfortable doing a whole room with one bright color, try doing an accent wall! It makes the room pop perfectly, just not as risky as a whole room. If you go bold on the wall(s), try more subtle accents and decor.
3. Light up a room using the floor: If you're starting from scratch, consider going graphic with your flooring! I love a herringbone patterned floor like this one especially for a bathroom. It gives depth and pattern - without making too much of a "bright" statement! Or for a bedroom or living room, try a brightly patterned area rug like this one!
4. Vibrant patterns in a small way: I think a great way to somewhat-subtly make a statement is to DIY a bookshelf to look similar to this! Making a statement while keeping it understated all at the same time!
5. Go bold with bedding: If you're looking to make a statement in your bedroom, a great way to do so is getting a brightly patterned bed set within your color scheme! Chevron, ikat, stripes and paisley prints are all great ways to go.
6. All in the textiles: As you can see above in my current dream living room, I'm all about the wall art and patterned pillows!! Having a bright (or even neutral) colored sofa, mixed with a patterned accent chair and some gorgeous textured and patterned throw pillows makes me SO happy! Bright wall art also can make a room pop - especially a floral design that matches your color scheme to a T! But for real - how gorgeous do those details look together?!
7. Last but not least, lamps: While it's important to have lamps for ample lighting in any given room, these are also some of the most important decorative items too! Try a patterned lamp shade for some real POP! I especially love a bold colored shade like this one.

I love vibrant colors and patterns, especially lately. Here's some of my favorite vibrant products to dress and fill up any room!
