Heat-free Hair Products Your Hair Needs this Summer

Summer beauty should be effortless - minimal makeup, simple 1-2-3 hair styles and as much fun in the sun as possible. We do more damage than we know to our hair when we use styling products, so the summer is the best time to give your hair a break! No heat required, these products are all helpful in styling your hair all summer long without using one heat styling tool. Summer is meant to be care-free so try some of these hair products to stay cool and keep your hair looking beautiful all summer long:

1. Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam: if you have naturally curly hair, this mousse-like foam is soo helpful to tame the curls in the summer! Humidity is not our friend, and this stuff helps tame the beast! When I leave my hair naturally curly on even the hottest days, I just scrunch this into my roots and ends and it helps give my hair some added bounce.

2. IGK Texture Spray: the two best things about this texture spray are that 1. you can use it on wet or dry hair and 2. it works wonders on ALL hair types. If you have pin straight hair, get this. If you have thick, curly hair, this is for you. It smells incredible, only a bonus. ;)

3. Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream: using Moroccan oil is like treating your hair with actual gold. It provides lots of texture so you don't have to worry about too much styling in the heat of the summer, and if you are known to over-treat your hair with heat products, this stuff seriously helps repair said damage. I used to straighten my hair every. single. day. (high school problems) and when I realized that changing it up a bit was in fact okay circa 2012, my hair was in major need of some TLC. I've been using Moroccanoil since and haven't looked back!

4. Invisibobbles: at only $8 per pack, you need these in your life! Grab a bunch because I swear you'll fall in love. I assumed that my hair would get extremely caught up and tangled in these, but they're magic - because even my thick hair stays up in these and they're so easy to take out! Sometimes your hair and a hot summer day don't mix well, and you just have to call it a day and throw it up - these come in a ton of colors so you can easily disguise them (LOVE the clear ones) and will keep your hair in place all day long.

5. Sun Bum Sea Spray: did anyone else used to attempt to make their own sea-salt spray for their hair in the summer? You know, to create "beach waves"? Because I know I did - my 8th grade self had a wild DIY side. ;) My favorite summer hair style are effortless curls/waves that literally look like you just were at the beach, and this sea spray does just that! I love it; it's inexpensive, gives so much texture and volume and lasts all day long. I especially love using it when I'm actually going to be spending a day at the beach!

6. IGK Cleansing Oil: these IGK products totally help to kill the hair game! I use it once per week and it says it can replace shampoo/conditioner, but I tend to use it at the very end of my shower after washing my hair. I like to think of it as somewhat of a hair mask and it helps keep your scalp from getting dry, which can be such a problem when you're out in the sun all summer.

7. Verb Sea Texture Cream: PSA. This is $14 and probably my favorite hair product I've EVER owned!! It literally is a cold glass of water for your hair; it adds volume, and holds waves/curls for even the thickest, heaviest hair. Grab it ASAP, you won't be sorry!

8. Pantene Curl Defining Mousse: I'll admit, if I'm not going somewhere fancy or doing anything super special, I leave my hair to its natural, curly self. This mousse is my favorite drugstore hair product, and my favorite curly hair mousse. My favorite part about it is that it tames your curls (so you don't get that 'fro going early in the day) without giving your hair that hard, mousse/gel feel that a lot of products do.

9. Mermaid Hair Oil: this is one of my most anticipated products en-route to my house! I almost instantly added it to my cart when I saw it had the word "mermaid" in its title, but I read a TON of reviews on it - because if I'm going to spend $30 on a product, I want to know it's good! - and I'm soo excited to try it. It's meant to maintain frizz, and help style your hair without drying it out. I've read great things about it for curly haired girls especially!

10. Frizz Ease Hair Spray: I've never been one to love using hair spray, but the Frizz Ease line by John Frieda is like no other, this product included! I especially love that you can use it and brush your hair while still maintaining its hold. It's only $7 and better than any other hair spray if you ask me!

11. IGK Coconut Oil Gel: it's no secret how amazing I think coconut oil is, so when I first tried this coconut oil gel I knew I'd fall in love with it instantly! It helps to moisturize your hair and keep it shiny and healthy, so it's great for when you are using heat products too. I use it every morning right after I get out of the shower and I definitely see a difference in how shiny and silky my hair is.

What's your favorite summer hair product?

  3. I used to be so much of a hair junky when I had longer hair. I had chemically treated hair and I can tell you, that heat makes it look like a dream but it messes it up so badly. Finding products to give you the same effect is a toughie so thanks for the info! I'd be sure to pass it on to my buddies.

  4. I really try to avoid heat on my hair during the summer months, partly because it's way too hot to even think about blasting my head with a hairdryer! These are great suggestions. Where I live it's all about hydrating my hair because we have dry summers and of course days at the beach really do a number!

  14. I neeeed that texture cream because my hair is flat as flat gets and it has no volume. I have such fine hair and not too much of it, unfortunately. I loved the mermaid one too but sadly I don't have curly hair so I don't think it would do much for me!
