NSale Home Favorites

The NSale is in full swing and while it's still early access, there's just a few more days until you can shop if you don't have a Nordstrom card! 5 Ways to Get Your Patio Summer Ready

Happy first day of Summer 2016!!! Summer officially starts today (!!!) and along with the fun that comes with summer, the hard work comes too. This past Saturday we spent the entire day working outside. It was hot, my feet were burning by bed time and I was not a happy camper, but man was it worth it! From 10 AM to 7 PM, it was work work work and after a long winter, the patio(s) definitely need it. We are actually pretty lucky with a mild winter so it could have been worse, but when you have lots of space to get ready for summer entertaining, it takes a load of work.
Seeing how nice everything turned out today really made me realize how worth it the hard work was. I love summer entertaining and decorating for the season, so deep cleaning is the number one step. Whether you have a big space or small patio, the cleaning process is pretty much the same. While it'll take many trips to Home Depot and lots of cold water, one day of work lets you enjoy a season long of fun! The collection is small still, but I have a feeling it's going to grow and it's going to all sell out pretty quickly. 12 Hacks to Successfully Shop at Home Goods

If there's one way to describe myself, it would be saying I'm indecisive - to say the least. I'm always "in the mood" to redecorate and I never am not shopping for home decor, even if it means I'm going to need a storage unit soon ; ) There are always new things to find, want, love and need, duh! Constant change when it comes to home decor keeps a room feeling fresh and updated. As I watch the season five premiere of Million Dollar Listing New York, I realize more and more how much of a dream designing and selling homes is to me, but it also makes me realize just how expensive decor can be.
Home furnishing stores are everywhere; Pottery Barn, Pier 1, ZGallerie, Lulu & Georgia, Restoration Hardware, etc etc... but the holy grail of it all - Home Goods. Honestly, I don't know what I did before I a.) realized how many Home Goods stores were so close to me and b.) shopped there. If you've never been to Home Goods, then march your you know what there ASAP!! It's not just an addiction, it's a lifestyle. For real.
Since each store is different in terms of stock and layout, there's different ways to plan your attack. Guys, this is more than a shopping trip, it's a mission.

The Best of Target Home Decor

I am SO Target obsessed it isn't even funny! I don't think there's ever been a time that I walked in and walked out without spending at least $100. Seriously, $100 must be their magic number because it happens every. single. time. Whether you're going in for mascara or a pack of water bottles, if you can leave without spending a ton of money then you are truly blessed! ; )
Next to being addicting, they've really become an amazing store all around more lately than I ever would have expected. I've noticed the changes over the past year or two, but the home section in particular has really hit it out of the park! They have a ton of co-brands and amazing decor, furniture, accents, you name it they have it. The best part is everything is really affordable and still looks super classy and as if you spent a lot on it!

There aren't many times that I don't have HGTV on. (If you saw my 10 Ways to Decorate like Joanna Gaines post, you already know that!) Next to Fixer Upper, Property Brothers is my next favorite show and honestly could anyone blame me?! I've been watching episodes of Property Brother and all of their spin-offs (Buying and Selling, Home on the Ranch and Brother vs. Brother) for years and the episodes only get better and better.

10 Ways to Decorate like Joanna Gaines

If you've ever watched the oh-so-popular HGTV hit Fixer Upper, then you're likely just as obsessed with the show as I am. I think it's safe to say I've seen every episode at least twice and I never get enough of Chip and Joanna! From their upbeat personalities, adorable love for each other all the way to the amazing things they do with a house that is flat out scary, there's no getting tired of Fixer Upper. Not only is the family gorgeous but so is Joanna's style of decorating - something we all wish she could do for us!
Joanna's style is rustic but modern with farmhouse twists and elements of reused decor. She never fails to amaze all of us and no matter what style the couple on each episode is in search for, Chip works to find the right home and Joanna works to save it. My favorite episode to this day is where they renovated a home for their carpenter, Clint, and his family. Seeing the home they took the couple into - it was seriously hard to believe it could be saved - but Joanna always is able to see past the worst of the worst in a home.
It's a sad reality to believe that we can't all move to Waco, buy a really old and destroyed home and have Chip and Joanna do a complete overhaul renovation for not a lot of money at all. Creating a Gallery Wall with Maria's Watercolor Designs

As you probably already know, I'm a complete design junkie and can never stop decorating any given space. I recently re-arranged the furniture in my bedroom because I can never stop moving things around and also because I wanted to have room to create a gallery wall! I've always loved the way that gallery walls look and the many ways that you can arrange what you're hanging. For this post, I wanted to have my entire gallery wall finished and ready to photograph but the beauty of creating a gallery wall is that it never truly has to be finished (seems to be my motto doesn't it?) because you can always add to it and make it larger - space permitting of course. So of course, I found two more things I loved for my wall and just purchased them - this print which I found at Home Goods and this map print.

Bar Cart Essentials: For an Awesome Cocktail Party

Since I just recently turned 21, I have had this idea that I want to throw cocktail parties! I've been to one since my birthday and it was so much fun. It's basically like a tea party for adults! ; ) Although I had fun, since I'm a design junkie and a bit of a perfectionist, I couldn't help but think about the differences that I would have had at my own cocktail party. When I think of a cocktail party, I think of glamour, champagne and a luxe look all around. Cocktail parties are a great way for anything whether it's a celebration, party, a way to watch a premiere/finale of a TV show or even a "just because" get together with your girls! Immediately, I began thinking about what I would want to have at my own party and I love what I came up with:

End of Summer Refresh: Clearing Clutter for Fall

Happy September!! It may not really be considered a summer month anymore, but in most places - including New York - we still have super warm and beautiful weather until at least the last week of September. I love the warm weather and how long it lasts but I also love redecorating for seasons as many times during the year as I possibly can! Even though the weather is still warm and I'm still sitting by the pool every day, there's ways to start a Fall de-clutter and move some accent pieces around to give any room a refresh; without pulling the pumpkin and red/orange leaf decorations out of storage just yet.

My Bathroom Makeover: before + after

I've been talking about my bathroom makeover for months now - and finally it's ready to be shared with you guys! It's been such a long process but I've loved every second of it! It couldn't have turned out any better and I'm finally extremely happy with the end result : )
I'm that person who scrolls through Pinterest looking at as many before/after projects as I possibly can! I love seeing a rooms potential and what it can become with some paint and new accessories. My bathroom was in major need of a makeover and when you see these "before" pictures you'll completely see why! Like I've mentioned before, it's much easier to find the accessories and details for a room before picking the paint color. I knew I wanted to paint, but there were so many color swatches I was loving so I stopped looking and first picked my shower curtain and all of my decor!
The best part of this bathroom makeover is that all the changes I made were cosmetic. Nothing major had to be done and everything was in great condition (thankfully). The most work that needed to be done was cleaning the grout on the tile floor and re-grouting in the shower/tub. In my perfect world, I would have a huge bathroom with double sinks, herringbone faux-wood tile and some gorgeous counter tops, but until I'm living on my own that isn't going to happen. However I really do love the way this bathroom makeover turned out and I'm so excited to share it!

Here's the before pictures and I am warning you it's scary, bright and needed to be redone for a very, very long time...


Every time I look at these pictures I cringe a little more...

I'm not entirely sure why this shelving unit was so messy or how it got that way! I liked having the extra storage, but having the shelf in that spot stuck out too much. It also let me have way too much clutter! My mess of hair straighteners, blow dryer and curling wands also got a new home off of the wall (thank god)

I thought I had the right idea with the towel placement but the zebra print is throwing me off big time. Don't get me wrong - I LOVED zebra print a few years ago. It was so in style and that was exactly when I made my bathroom bright pink and covered in zebra print everything (and anything) I could find! Thankful that stage has gone and passed...

Can someone please tell me what I was thinking?

If you're still reading after seeing those pictures, a big thank you! I promise the next couple of pictures are going to be much more pleasing to look at. As you can see, my bathroom isn't a huge space. When we added on to our house the second time, my en-suite was added and I only had the space that was there to work with. That was, unless I made my closet smaller and if you know me at all, you know that was not going to happen! Do you have a small space and think there's not much you can do with it? Guess again because there's SO much you can do no matter how many square feet you have to fill up!

Once it came time to pick a paint color that matched the shower curtain I picked, I went through so many swatches and shades of seafoam until I finally made up my mind!


After going back and forth with different shades and colors, I ended up choosing Tide Pools by Behr and I'm so glad I did! I typically only paint with Behr paints because the quality of the paint and the way it hits the walls seems to be better than others. You saw that shade of pink - I didn't even need a primer coat to cover that up! You can read about my tips on painting a room if you're getting ready to paint also!

How much better is this?! It still blows my mind knowing that this is what came from that bright pink mess!



My tissue box, toothbrush holder and tumbler are all from Home Goods. They always have different sets of bathroom organizational products in different themes and this one was (and still is) the prettiest I've ever come across! When I purchased this set I was contemplating between this and another similar one but I'm so glad I chose this one! At this point of picking things out, I still hadn't found my shower curtain but seeing this set, I knew that I wanted color in the sea-foam green palette!

The following week, I found my shower curtain!! This is also from Home Goods and I fell in LOVE with it when I saw it! It's Tahari and I got it for $19.99 which was an incredible deal! I found the same one on Amazon and am so happy I was able to link you guys to it!

I never really thought that something simple like shower curtain hooks could make such a huge difference in a bathroom like they have for me! Before I just had plain white hooks and once I hung this new shower curtain up, I started to look for some prettier ones. Mine are from Pottery Barn and unfortunately aren't available anymore, but I have seen some cute ones on Joss and Main lately!

In all of these pictures, you've probably noticed my two pull out mirrors on either side of the vanity mirror. I bought one of them from Ikea and I absolutely loved it so I bought another one to install closer to the window. This mirror is under $10 and is super easy to install!

This tray is another Home Goods find!! I bought this the same day I purchased my shower curtain and the design on the bottom matched perfectly so I had to buy it! I originally wasn't going to keep the mini white chest in the bathroom, but once I found this tray I changed my mind. I do display my perfumes, but this bottle of Aqua Kiss from Victoria's Secret is one of my favorites AND matched the paint perfectly so I put it here for display! My makeup is all stored within this chest but it's no where near organized as of yet so I figured I'll talk about my makeup storage sometime in the near future!

It took me about four different tries until I got this wall exactly how I wanted it to be. I went to Target with my shower curtain once the room was painted to pick out towels and a mini rug and it just so happened that they had a perfect shade of sea-foam to match my walls! There were a couple different shades of brown that I liked but I decided to go with the darker brown to help make the lighter colored towels pop against the walls.
I knew I wanted a large frame for this wall, and I was originally going to create and print one of my favorite quotes for said frame, but then I found this frame and loved it! I actually found it by mistake while shopping for supplies to create my mugs for Sip of Sass. I still planned to print my quote for this frame, but once I hung it up to see where I liked it, I ended up really liking the stock picture that came with it! The colors were perfect so (for now), it stays.


Okay - how adorable are these scoppio spheres?! I fell in love with these wall decor pieces from ZGallerie! The same day that I found these, I was in Target (shocker) and I found a cheaper version that look exactly the same if not prettier! I loved them because they were a dimensional object and was different than the frame and normal wall decor. I love looking at them and I love that they're all different sizes!

Finally - my favorite part of the room! I found this also at Home Goods and I first noticed it because of the color. I bought it to try in my bathroom and once I hung it up, I realized that the arrow graphic was pointing toward the bathroom door! That's the best part because it reminds me to have a beautiful day when I leave the room : )

The best part of this project was that I completely designed my bathroom on my own; from the paint to the hardware to the accessories, picking everything out was so much fun and I would do it over and over again in a heartbeat! And I'm pretty sure we can all agree what a difference a couple coats of paint can make!

Decorating with Florals

Using floral prints and patterns to decorate a room can seem sort of risky in hopes of not making it look gaudy and old fashioned, but these prints come in so many different shapes, sizes and colors and is a real trend these days! Not only are floral patterns extremely stylish, but they also can bring life and light into a room that may have a before picture of being dark and gloomy.

The key to decorating with florals is to find a certain pattern that you like - the colors, size of the flowers and the style of the print - and sticking to it!
Here's some tips for decorating with floral designs in different spaces:
Floral doesn't mean ancient: believe it or not, you can decorate a space with floral prints without making it look like you just raided your grandma's attic. If you're going with floral prints on your couch or the pillows, balance the pattern out by adding bright colored pillows, a statement rug, or a stylish coffee table.

Don't overdo it: trust me, there is no time that you should ever try and decorate every aspect of a space with floral patterns! More is less. Flowered fabrics are usually bright and vibrant and are "popping pieces" - or pieces that you first notice when you walk into a room. If you have a floral patterned couch or accent chair in your living room, get throw pillows that are a solid color that matches the floral print. If you have a floral comforter in your bedroom, use matching colors for decor pieces.

Be aware of the print sizes: be sure to remember that the scale and size of a floral print can make a huge difference depending on which aspect of a room you're decorating. For example, if you're doing a floral accent wallpaper or styling a furniture piece like a couch, bigger floral prints will look better than small, cluttered floral prints. On smaller scaled pieces like a floral lampshade or an accent pillow, smaller flowered prints will stand out more.

Hanging plates: a trend that's really popular right now is decorating your walls with decorative plates. I really love this look - especially in an open concept living/dining room! Try brightening up a room by playing with different patterned floral plates to create a focal point on your walls. This is one (of few) examples where it looks good to use many different flowers - just try to stay within a theme or color scheme!

Accent walls are everything: I absolutely love the idea of having an accent wall - especially in a bedroom! Wallpaper can be tricky and seem daunting, but finding a modern, floral print wallpaper that you love may be the answer to your bedroom decorating woes. Try a monotone floral print instead of going too bold and hurting your eyes. A larger floral print that's a simple color can go a long way!

Pairing with patterns: even though floral patterns already have a lot going on in them, pairing floral prints with other patterns like chevron or stripes can really make it pop even more!

It's so feminine, chic and makes a statement without overdoing it! I love the tan/gold and the colors that were matched with it! The second gorgeous room is a Lilly Pulitzer dressing room - which I could LIVE in! Every time I go into one of Lilly's stores I fantasize over the dressing rooms. The floral wallpaper is super bold with such a pretty color scheme and has larger scaled flowers versus the smaller scaled flowers in the first picture. They give such a different look yet both are so bold and make a gorgeous statement!

Decorating a space with vibrant and bold colors!

Happy Tuesday and more importantly - happy JUNE!! It's been a couple super rainy days in New York so I've been stuck inside! But I've been shopping to find the last finishing touches to my bedroom makeover and I realized how awesome it is to have a vibrant touch to any room! No matter what color scheme or look you're going for, I think having some pieces that really pop in a room make it inviting and bring a space together. Going vibrant, bright and bold for a room is important to be done right, especially if you're going bold with your paint choice!

BLack, gold, pink and turquoise is one of my absolute favorite color combinations! Taking vibrant colors like these and mixing them with a more subtle color (like black) goes together like PB&J in my opinion!!

Here's some ways to decorate a room while adding some bold choices:
1. Stick to a scheme: While I've seen rooms that have a broad color scheme and look GORGEOUS, I prefer rooms that have a set scheme with a small handful of matching colors.
2. Going bold on your walls: If you have a vibrant/bold color on your walls, I bet it looks awesome! If you aren't as comfortable doing a whole room with one bright color, try doing an accent wall! It makes the room pop perfectly, just not as risky as a whole room. If you go bold on the wall(s), try more subtle accents and decor.
3. Light up a room using the floor: If you're starting from scratch, consider going graphic with your flooring! I love a herringbone patterned floor like this one especially for a bathroom. It gives depth and pattern - without making too much of a "bright" statement! Or for a bedroom or living room, try a brightly patterned area rug like this one!
4. Vibrant patterns in a small way: I think a great way to somewhat-subtly make a statement is to DIY a bookshelf to look similar to this! Making a statement while keeping it understated all at the same time!
5. Go bold with bedding: If you're looking to make a statement in your bedroom, a great way to do so is getting a brightly patterned bed set within your color scheme! Chevron, ikat, stripes and paisley prints are all great ways to go.
6. All in the textiles: As you can see above in my current dream living room, I'm all about the wall art and patterned pillows!! Having a bright (or even neutral) colored sofa, mixed with a patterned accent chair and some gorgeous textured and patterned throw pillows makes me SO happy! Bright wall art also can make a room pop - especially a floral design that matches your color scheme to a T! But for real - how gorgeous do those details look together?!
7. Last but not least, lamps: While it's important to have lamps for ample lighting in any given room, these are also some of the most important decorative items too! Try a patterned lamp shade for some real POP! I especially love a bold colored shade like this one.

Tiered Cake Stands and their many uses!

Tiered stands were originally made to display cakes, cupcakes, desserts and other foods for parties. Over the past few months in the midst of redecorating, I wanted to have a better way to display my nicer bottled perfumes. Rather than displaying them boringly on a shelf or throwing them on my dresser I found a way more exciting and beautiful way to display these perfume bottles! Here's my perfume display:




There's so many different types of trays - color, material, size, finish, etc. and choosing your tiered tray really depends on what you're looking for. These trays are also usually a bit pricey and it took me a while to pick the perfect one because I didn't want to get a cheap looking one (which seemed to be the only affordable choices) but also didn't want to spend a fortune on a tray like this. I endlessly searched for months until finding the one I purchased on Joss and Main. Granted it was a bit more than I was looking to pay, but I'm SO happy with it and it was definitely worth the money! My mom also made me realize that this is something I'll likely have for a while - and when in my own home, it's a piece that I can use for other intentions also (like displaying food for parties as it's really meant for!)
