5 Tips for Waking Up Earlier

Complaining about not having enough hours in the day is something that the majority of us do, but sometimes that's because of what time the morning starts. Most especially if the weather isn't great or if I just had a busy/long day before, struggling to wake up is something I know all too well! Ever since I started sleeping with a Tempur-Pedic tempur-breeze pillow, my quality of sleep has shot up. I definitely attribute more productive mornings to this pillow! And although it can be hard, being most productive in the early morning really does make for a better day.

1. Find the right pillow

Having the right pillow for you is beyond important! There's so many different brands and types to choose from and everyone has different pillow-needs. For me, having a supportive pillow that stays cool is most important. I've tried a couple different kinds, all of which I had high hopes for in helping my headaches. I've now been using the Tempur-Cloud Breeze pillow for a month and I can happily say that it's the best pillow I've ever rested my head on! It's the perfect amount of soft yet firm and it stays SO nice and cool all night long.

No matter what position I sleep in, it conforms to my neck and head and the gel forms so that it's as comfortable as can be. If I get even a little bit warm throughout the night, I wake up and have to re-position myself. I'm a high maintenance sleeper, clearly! But I wake up in a sweat a lot less now that I've been sleeping with this pillow. When I saw the Tempur-Breeze collection advertised on TV, I knew I wanted to try it. Pillows are so important and until you find the right one, you don't know what you're missing.

The best part is, I really do wake up feeling so well rested! It's a great feeling to not wake up with back or neck pain; I wake up a lot easier than I have in the past.

2. Set a consistent time to wake up

Waking up later than normal on the weekends or a day off is nice, but it makes it so much harder to get back into a routine. I try sticking to a time - give or take. The more nights that you get the same amount of sleep in a row, the better! Every time I try to change my routine I take it slowly instead of a drastic hour or two change at once. For example, waking up 10 minutes earlier each day for 3 days to get to my goal time.

3. Get out of and make your bed

Is it just me or does making your bed make you feel so good?! My sister's coach always tells them, even if you have a bad day - having made your bed will make you feel good about yourself - and it's so true. Accomplishing something early in the morning (even something small like this) definitely makes you feel productive and gets you going for the day. It also gives you something to look forward to at the end of the day - getting into a crisp and clean bed!

4. Don't snooze

We're undoubtedly ALL guilty of hitting the snooze one too many times when the dreaded alarm(s) go off. If you're an iPhone user, you know those 8 minutes go way too fast! But it's no secret that snoozing only makes it harder to get up and really makes you more drowsy and dreary about leaving your comfy bed. While I don't necessarily like it, something I've found that helps prevent hitting the snooze button is putting my phone or alarm clock somewhere where I have to get up to reach it. It seems sort of mean to do to yourself, but it works!

5. Have a set to-do list for the day

By nature, I'm a planner - I'm a Virgo. I always have to-do lists in the Notes of my iPhone and on paper on my desk. Before I go to bed and as soon as I wake up, I look over/think about what's on the list to start getting motivated. Nothing is better than checking something off on your list, so if you're motivated and have goals you'll likely find it easier to get started each morning.

I hope you find at least one of these tips helpful! Waking up earlier gives me so much more time and as much as I love sleep, sometimes it's just necessary to be up and cracking early enough to see the sun rise.

XOXO

  11. I am seriously on the hunt for new pillows AS WE SPEAK!! Ours are at that limp, lifeless stage of their existence hahaha... but also, the to-do list. Especially working from home, without that, my day can easily feel like one long session of Facebook or emailing.

  28. I am so guilty of snoozing. I usually snooze three times before I finally drag my butt out of bed. I need this pillow. I struggle with getting enough quality sleep thanks to Fibromyalgia. I usually don't wake up feeling refreshed and if I do an hour or two later, I feel like I have run a marathon when I haven't. I am also guilty of not making my bed.
